Bhutan nestles in the lap of the eastern Himalayas, the remote and rugged mountains which have since time immemorial, been a place that philosophers and pilgrims have been irresistibly drawn to in their personal search for wisdom, solitude, happiness and inspiration. The Himalayas have been referred to as the abode of the gods and home to the immortals in many eastern classics and books of wisdom.
This truly spiritual land only cautiously opened its doors to visitors in 1974 and since then, its closely guarded culture and traditions have mesmerized those lucky enough to experience one of the most pristine natural and cultural destinations in the world. Bhutan’s 600,000 hospitable inhabitants consist of Drukpa people of Mongoloid descent and Nepalese farmers.
