Cyprus

About Cyprus

Located west of Syria, and south of Turkey, with a storied past 10,000 years long, Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean; a stepping stone between Europe and the Middle East. Here on this compact island you will discover alluring beaches and fragrant mountain peaks, vineyards studded with olive trees and ancient ruins that stir the imagination, citrus groves and old stone villages.

The heady mix of Mediterranean weather and cuisine and the warmth and kindness of its people makes Cyprus a welcoming holiday destination. There are opportunities for visits to Crusader castles, Roman ruins and fascinating museums but, the island also caters for more sophisticated demands with widespread facilities for fishing, golf, cycling, sailing/yachting, swimming, nature treks and water sports.

Paphos is the capital of Cyprus' western region and consists of two areas: the coastal resort area (Kato Paphos) and the town itself (Pano Paphos) which is slightly inland. Among its attractions are its ancient mosaic floors, its beautiful old harbour, the archaeological museum, the Byzantine castle of Paphos, the Tombs of the Kings, St. Paul’s Pillar and the Temple of Aphrodite (the goddess of love and beauty). According to Homer, Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of love and beauty, was born from the soft sea foam near Paphos.
