About Kenya

Mount Kenya, the second highest peak in the African continent, gives its name to this east African country, which shares its borders with five others, the beautiful Lake Victoria to the west and the Indian Ocean to the east.

Heading inland from the coast, you will find low, broad, hilly plains which give way to the central highlands which in turn rise to the stupendous Rift Valley and the locale of the three highest mountains on the continent – Mounts Kenya, Elgon and Kilimanjaro.

The tropical climate on the coast is in sharp contrast to the aridness of the interior.

One of the main reasons people flock to Kenya is the wildlife in the form of the Big Five – namely lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo. These are seen to their best advantage, and your safety, on five of the most thrilling safaris held on the Amboseli, Aberdare, Samburu, Nakaru and Masai Mara reserves. Don’t forget your camera!

Away from the game parks, there are the sporting activities in and around the mighty Rift Valley with its glaciers, volcanoes and geysers lending themselves to all types of exciting adventures in the form of trekking, walking, camping, driving and climbing, amongst others.

Nairobi, the capital, is a thriving commercial capital and the hub of the country’s transport system.

It also has its own National Park to be found just 4 miles outside and although small, is one of the country’s most successful rhinoceros sanctuaries.
