Ananda In The Himalayas, Himalayas, India

Swirled in the sacred mists of time, nestled in the Himalayas is Ananda, a world class Destination Spa. Once the residence of Maharaja of Tehri-Garhwal, it is dedicated to today’s traveller, who is looking for innovative ways to restore and rejuvenate his energies. Grounded in Ayurveda, Yoga and Vedanta combined with contemporary international therapies which enhance and augment the original, Ananda is the ultimate escape from the mundane to the spiritual, where every corner spells harmony and every colour soothes the senses.

Location and Transfers

Ananda is located on a hill overlooking the ancient spiritual city of Rishikesh.

There are frequent flights from Delhi International Airport to Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun. Flight time is 45 minutes followed by a 40 min picturesque drive to Ananda in the Himalayas.

Daily trains operate from Delhi. The train journey takes 4.5 hours from Delhi to Haridwar followed by a 90 minute drive to Ananda in the Himalayas.

We can organise helicopter transfers from Delhi and other specific locations to Ananda. The journey from Delhi to Ananda’s private helipad (5 minutes away) takes approximately 2 hours.

The drive to Ananda from Delhi takes approximately 7-8 hours depending on traffic conditions. Although a few guests do chose to come by road we do not recommend this as traffic is difficult to estimate.

Ananda’s 78 rooms, suites and villas are designed with classic elegance in the colonial hill architectural style and blend seamlessly with the lush surrounding landscapes. The 70 elegant rooms feature panoramic views of the valley or of the Palace. With a serene and natural feel, each room is a haven in itself with luxurious beds, perfectly appointed bathrooms with bathtubs overlooking landscaped gardens or the valley and private balconies with picture perfect views. 4 Suites facing either the Valley or the Maharaja’s palace have secluded private gardens. The historic Viceregal Suite with its own private terrace offers spectacular views of surrounding valleys. Each of the 3 private luxury villas has 40 sqm private villa pools which are surrounded by Sal trees and a deck area with comfortable lounge beds

Ananda in the Himalayas should not be looked at just as a place to diet and lose weight, but should instead be “a way of life”. The cuisine is fresh, natural foods low in fat and calories with an emphasis on whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, low-fat dairy products, and the avoidance of added or artificial salts, colours, flavours or preservatives.

The objective is to provide a rejuvenation cuisine for guests, who, whilst relaxing, desire to re-vitalize their body and soul through a healthy approach to diet and lifestyle. This is reemphasized by the show kitchen at Ananda where the chefs instruct in how to make these dishes at home so that one may continue that ‘way of life’. Special care menus are provided in consultation with the in house Ayurvedic doctor, to align the specific imbalances of the various body types.

The Restaurant – the spa’s signature restaurant features the finest Indian, Asian and Western cuisine

Tea Lounge – located in the Viceregal Palace, it is a warm, romantic setting for an afternoon cup of tea and light snacks
