About St. Kitts-Nevis
These two small islands lie dreaming in the sparkling blue seas of the Caribbean between the US Virgin Islands and the easterly Leeward Islands and are 19 degrees north of the Equator. St. Kitts is 23 miles long and 5 wide, with Nevis being 7 miles in diameter.
Time has almost stood still here, with huge old Colonial sugar plantation houses morphing into inns which whilst offering the highest standard of accommodation, also provide a tantalising glimpse into the islands past.
The beaches of St. Kitts and Nevis range in colour from black sand in the northeast, to gold and on through the cool spectrum of grey to white in the south. As with nearly all the Caribbean islands, the waters surrounding St. Kitts and Nevis provide a kaleidoscope of colour with shoals of tropical fish darting between the fingers of coral. Scuba diving and snorkelling are made more interesting with a number of wrecks to dive on.
Explorers to St. Kitts can hike into the lush rainforest hidden in the clouds and gaze across the mile-wide rim of the dormant volcano. Exotic plants, birds and colourful butterflies can be seen in the rainforest and if the explorer is lucky, troupes of green vervet monkeys.
On Nevis, the slopes of the Peak can be covered with the same cloud-misted rainforest and hiking down those slopes, the visitor will come across sites of archaeological and historical interest.
