Kakslauttanen is a family hotel in Finnish Lapland, 250km north of the Arctic Circle. It is located right on the edge of the wilderness, a mere stone’s throw from the Urho Kekkonen National Park, the largest of Finland’s national parks. This secluded log cabin village is the ultimate location for enjoying a multitude of Arctic adventures, such as winter safaris by reindeer, husky or snowmobile and also for viewing the Northern Lights (Aurora borealis).
As a highlight of your stay you can overnight in either a snow or glass igloo or, if that doesn’t appeal, a traditional log cabin or an authentic Finnish house.
Location and Transfers
Located in Finnish Lapland close to Urho Kekkonen National Park, the largest of Finland’s National Parks. The closest airport to Kakslauttanen is Ivalo airport (IVL), a 30 minute drive from Kakslauttanen.
Glass Igloos – available through the Northern Lights season from around the third week of August until the end of April. 2 or 4 person igloos, the 2 person igloos have showers and saunas in a separate building however, the 4 person igloos offer shower facilities. All igloos are equipped with a toilet
Kelo-Glass Igloos – combine the comforting warmth of the cosy log cabins with sensational views of the world famous glass igloos. Sleeping up to six and featuring a private sauna, fireplace, kitchenette and a bedroom with a stunning glass roof, they’re made from Lapland’s unique Kelo pinewood. Snow Igloo – with a consistent temperature of -3 to -6, even if the temperature outside drops to -40 degrees centigrade. The resort will provide everything you need for a comfortable night, including down sleeping bags
Log Cabins – constructed of large kelo pine, each with their own garden area, the log cabins can accommodate from one to ten people. Each cabin offers a double bed, shower, toilet, kitchenette, fireplace and a private sauna. The best of the log cabins is the Queen Suite with an outdoor Jacuzzi
Wedding Chamber (Earth Lodge or kammi in Finnish) – this concealed lodge with a turf roof is the perfect hideout for a couple. It offers a sauna and a bathroom with a bathtub
Traditional House – immerse yourself in the authentic Lapland lifestyle of old. This log house sleeps two adults and two children and features a sauna
Sivakka – the largest cabin sleeping up to ten people offering a large living room, three bedrooms, kitchen, separate fireplace room and a sauna
Santa’s Home – Santa will give up his home and even his own bedroom for guests to enjoy
Gold Digger’s Cabins – stay on the banks of the golden river in peace and quiet. These cabins have their own sauna and in the front yard, you’ll find a kick sled. This traditional Finnish winter runabout will get you to the restaurant or activity sites in no time
The Resort’s two restaurants offer a la carte menus packed with delicious local Lappish cuisine. Depending on where your accommodation is located, you may enjoy meals at either the tradtional Kelo restaurant or the West Village Aurora restaurant with its famous Glass Igloo Bar.
