Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur, India

The Vintage coupé glides to a stop at the lake’s edge. It’s hard to believe the floating vision in marble is real. Blink, and indeed, there is a luminous palace emerging from the mist. Suddenly you are in a boat, drifting ever closer and the reality doesn’t disappoint. With the Aravalli Mountains and city palaces as a backdrop one gets an impending sense of enchantment.

Accommodations at Taj Lake Palace, a Leading Small Hotel, are as delightful as the exterior. Every one of the romantic rooms holds a story and among the most compelling is The Chandra Prakash Suite, meaning Lustre of the Moon. The decorative gilt moldings, sculpted marble columns, and fine fretwork screens impressed even the Maharaja who held court in this very room in the 1930s.

There are countless unique experiences to be had. Indulge in royal Mewar fare at the Lily Pond, where courtesans once welcomed royalty into the folds of the palace. Or sail into a purple sunset on a 150-year old ceremonial barge complete with candlelight and resplendently dressed oarsmen. Indulge in a heritage walk with a royal escort armed with caviar, pate and a bottle of bubbly. Soak in the sounds and sights of the city as your royal butler accompanies you on a shopping trip. In this royal dream, anything is possible.

Location and Transfers

The extraordinarily beautiful Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur, appears like a jewelled lotus seemingly afloat on the soft, shimmering waters of Lake Pichola.
The palace is a 40 minute drive from Udaipur Airport.

Luxury Rooms – a captivating orchestration of simplicity, elegance and attention to detail, they showcase the finest modern craftsmanship, yet never leave their heritage behind. These rooms are stylishly and amply outfitted and as one might expect, every conceivable comfort is provided. Luxury rooms offer everything one needs and the Royal Butler will take care of the rest

Palace Rooms – imbued with more space than Luxury rooms and their fair share of archways and patterned mystique. Classical Indian architecture, high ceilings and rich décor with floral artwork provide the most charming of settings, yet a range of advanced technology is always close at hand

Royal Suites – guests delight in the delicate frescoes, decorative wall niches and antique wooden fans. The views are panoramic, even from the bathrooms. Royal Suites are graced with traditional décor, impeccable interiors and stained glass windows. Another favourite feature of the Royal Suites are the extra sitting areas with stunning views of the lake

Grand Royal Suites – the epitome of royal grandeur and offer guests a taste of the finest traditions and lifestyles of the princely kingdom of Udaipur. The resplendent Grand Royal Suites are the part of the original design of the palace and their decadence is legendary. Many Grand Royal Suites also flaunt an attached terrace. However lavish the suites may be, they are also warm and welcoming to a fault

Grand Presidential Suite – the Shambhu Prakash suite is named after the Maharana Shambhu Singh, known for his progressive reforms and welfare measures in the 1860’s. The suite, furnished in impressive, opulent strokes of colour graced with high curved arches, exudes a mix of both Rajasthani and European grandeur. The suite opens to a comfortable and elegantly appointed library stocked with select literary works and hand picked artefacts. An adjoining balcony offers views of what is arguably the best lake view sunset in the world

Neel Kamal – classical Indian instrumental music sets the mood for romantic, inspired dining at this luxurious restaurant. Wood-fired cooking and a show kitchen add to the intensity of the atmosphere. Signature features include a large selection of local Rajasthani specialties and an extensive selection of fine wines from around the world

Amrit Sagar – aptly named Sea of Nectar, the stylish bar is renowned for its fine selection of vintage wines, spirits and cigars. The bar has a refreshing indoor-outdoor ambience, and a relaxed charm. Amrit Sagar is the ideal place to sample traditional afternoon High Tea or light meals

Bhairo – nestled on the rooftop, this open air restaurant offers a scintillating view of the beautifully lit Palace of the King of Mewar and the sparkling waters of Lake Pichola. It’s a beautiful setting from which to enjoy the exotic blend of contemporary, western cuisine prepared by the master chefs

Jharokha – dine under scalloped arches overlooking the serene waters of Lake Pichola. Jharokha brings informal, all day dining to Taj Lake Palace and offers a vibrant array of delicacies from all over the world. Enjoy a contemporary, world cuisine with Asian and Mediterranean overtones
